Supermodel Elle Macpherson, now 60, has opened up for the first time about her secret battle with breast cancer, revealing that she chose to refuse chemotherapy despite the advice of 32 doctors. The Australian star, best known for her iconic career in modeling, disclosed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago but opted for alternative treatments instead of conventional medical therapies.

In her forthcoming memoir, Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, Elle shares that the diagnosis came as a shocking and confusing moment in her life. After discovering a lump and undergoing a lumpectomy, she was diagnosed with HER2-positive estrogen receptor intraductal carcinoma. Her doctors proposed a comprehensive treatment plan, which included a mastectomy, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and breast reconstruction.

However, Elle made the controversial decision to decline these treatments. Instead, she chose a holistic approach, relying on prayer, meditation, and natural therapies to heal herself. In an interview with Women's Weekly, Elle recounted spending time on a Miami beach, praying and meditating, which ultimately led her to reject pharmaceutical treatments. She then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she spent eight months alone, focusing entirely on her healing under the guidance of a team that included a naturopath, holistic dentist, osteopath, chiropractor, and two therapists.

Elle admitted that refusing standard medical advice was the hardest decision she has ever made. She believed that chemotherapy and surgery were too extreme for her situation, and following her instincts was essential to her. Now in what she refers to as "clinical remission," Elle prefers to call it "complete wellness."

The supermodel's decision was met with mixed reactions from her loved ones. Her younger son, Cy, 21, fully supported her choice, while her older son, Flynn, 26, had reservations but still stood by her. Her former partner, Arpad Busson, also expressed his pride in her courage, despite disagreeing with her methods.

Elle's approach to her health and wellness has been shaped by previous experiences, including a cancer scare in 2013 when she found a lump in her breast on her 49th birthday. Although the lump was benign, the scare prompted her to reconsider her lifestyle, leading her to a more holistic approach to health.

The NHS advises that breast cancer treatment should be personalized, based on the type and stage of cancer and the patient's overall health. Traditional treatments, such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapies, are often recommended to improve outcomes. While alternative therapies can help alleviate symptoms like nausea and fatigue, there is no scientific evidence to suggest they can cure cancer.

Elle's story highlights the complexities of making personal health decisions and the importance of trusting one's instincts, even when facing life-threatening conditions. Her journey of self-healing and resilience offers a unique perspective on battling illness and finding wellness on one's own terms.
