Laura Whitmore Shares Final Texts with Caroline Flack
Laura Whitmore Shares Heartfelt Final Messages with Caroline Flack on Fifth Anniversary of Her Death.

Laura Whitmore has shared the deeply emotional and previously unseen final messages exchanged between her and close friend Caroline Flack before the beloved TV presenter's tragic passing. Marking the fifth anniversary of Flack’s death, Whitmore reflected on their friendship and revealed why she declined to participate in an upcoming documentary about the late Love Island host.
Caroline Flack’s Tragic Passing and Legacy
Caroline Flack, a well-known television presenter, tragically passed away at the age of 40 on February 15, 2020, in her North East London home. Her death was ruled a suicide following an inquest in August of the same year. The news shocked the entertainment industry and led to widespread discussions about mental health, media pressure, and personal struggles.
Flack, who was at the time facing legal issues following an alleged assault involving her then-boyfriend Lewis Burton, had stepped down from hosting Love Island. Laura Whitmore later took over the role in December 2019 but left the show in 2022, with Maya Jama stepping in as the current host.
Laura Whitmore’s Emotional Tribute
Taking to Instagram on the fifth anniversary of Flack’s passing, Whitmore, 39, shared a throwback photo of the two friends along with their final text messages. These messages, sent just weeks before Flack’s death, showcased their mutual support and admiration.
One particularly touching message from Flack, whom Whitmore had saved as "Flacky" in her phone, expressed her heartfelt wishes that Whitmore would succeed her as Love Island host. "I hope you are doing the job... I wouldn't want it to be anyone else," Flack wrote. Whitmore responded warmly, calling it a "lovely message" and explaining that she had met with producers but had not yet received confirmation.
When she eventually secured the hosting role, Whitmore personally informed Flack before the news was made public, promising to "do my very best to give it the justice it deserves." Flack simply replied with a red heart emoji, saying, "I'm glad it's you."
In her Instagram caption, Whitmore reminisced about Flack’s unwavering support. "Looking at messages I’ve never publicly shared as they were private messages, I think they show a side to Caroline which is nice to remember. Hence, I’m sharing now," she wrote. "She wasn’t perfect and I didn’t know her as well as others, but I knew she had her demons."
Whitmore recalled first meeting Flack in 2011 when she took over hosting I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here Now! and highlighted how supportive Flack was of her career. "She was as supportive of me doing that role back then as she was when she supported me doing Love Island in 2020."
Declining the Disney+ Documentary
Whitmore also revealed she declined the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Disney+ documentary about Flack. "Every time I’ve been asked to speak about the situation or be part of a documentary, I decline," she wrote. "I’ve already said all I can say on the tragedy and don’t want words to be misconstrued. I need to look after my own mental health."
Despite her absence from the documentary, Whitmore emphasized that she hopes Flack is now at peace. "The last message from her to me were love hearts. I’d like to think wherever she is now, she’s at peace and somewhere lovely like I hoped."
Caroline Flack’s Family’s Search for Answers
The upcoming Disney+ documentary about Flack aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding her final months. Flack’s mother, Christine, is heavily involved in the film, hoping to provide insight into her daughter’s struggles. "I still have so many questions about what happened to Caroline in her final months, and it's something I feel deeply compelled to explore," Christine shared. "I know it will be challenging, but I hope it brings clarity and understanding to her story."
The documentary will feature firsthand testimonies from Flack’s family and friends, as well as exclusive footage and interviews.
Lingering Questions About Caroline’s Final Hours
One aspect of Flack’s passing that remains controversial is the decision of her friends, including stylist Lou Teasdale and production manager Mollie Grosberg, to leave her alone in her flat on the day she died. Reports indicate that Flack had made a previous suicide attempt the day before, raising concerns about why she was left unaccompanied.
A close friend of Teasdale defended her, saying, "Louise had to get back to her young daughter. She couldn't stay any longer. They had been with Caroline for hours, trying to get her to go to the hospital, but she refused. They stayed as long as they could."
Others, however, question why it was left to Flack’s friends to look after her instead of professional mental health support or family intervention. The upcoming documentary is expected to delve into these difficult questions.
Mental Health Awareness and Support
Since Flack’s passing, discussions around mental health support and suicide prevention have gained more attention. Lou Teasdale has since partnered with mental health charity Body & Soul, which provides a structured six-month support program for individuals who have attempted suicide.
"Suicide has affected my life a lot over the past 10 years," Teasdale shared. "There is quite literally NOTHING that actually works with and helps people who are suicidal. Body & Soul offers real on-the-ground impact with the work they do."
As the five-year anniversary of Flack’s death prompts reflection and remembrance, her legacy remains one of talent, warmth, and tragic loss. Laura Whitmore’s tribute, along with the forthcoming documentary, ensures that her story continues to be told with care and respect.
