Lila Moss Pays Tribute to Mother Kate Moss in Sheer Metallic Slip Dress at British Fashion Awards 2023

Lila Moss Pays Tribute to Mother Kate Moss in Sheer Metallic Slip Dress at British Fashion Awards 2023
Published 3 months ago on Dec 05, 2023

Walking the red carpet in a sheer metallic slip dress reminiscent of Kate's legendary 1993 Liza Bruce gown, Lila made a bold fashion statement that echoed the past.

The Nensi Dojaka-designed silver gown featured cut-out sections, thin straps, a pleated bra top, and a low back, creating a modern twist on the classic '90s slip dress trend. Lila complemented her look with strappy black heels, gold earrings borrowed from her mother Kate, and a subtle makeup look, pulling her hair back into an elegant bun.

Kate Moss's sheer Liza Bruce dress from 1993 is remembered as one of her most iconic looks, setting a trend for slip dresses. Kate herself revealed that she had no idea the dress was see-through until she saw pictures in the newspaper the next day, attributing the illusion to camera flashes.

Lila Moss, discussing her attire for the event with British Vogue, shared, 'I love to feel elegant, chic, and sexy, and Nensi’s designs are the perfect balance of all of these vibes, so I’m feeling confident.' She drew inspiration from her mother's wispy bun hairstyle worn at a Donna Karan show in 1993.

Designer Nensi Dojaka added, 'The inspiration for this look came from the iconic Liza Bruce sheer slip dress worn by Kate in 1993. Lila is the perfect example of a young woman unafraid to set her own rules.'

The British Fashion Awards 2023, presented by jewelry brand Pandora, took place at the Royal Albert Hall and welcomed industry luminaries such as Beyoncé, Kate Moss, Poppy Delevingne, Lily James, Jourdan Dunn, and Rina Sawayama on the red carpet. The awards honored outstanding contributions, with Valentino Garavani receiving the Outstanding Achievement award, Charlotte Tilbury the Special Recognition Award, and the late Joe Casely-Hayford a posthumous special recognition award.

South Londoner Kai Isaiah Jamal, alongside Paloma Elsesser and Alton Mason, was nominated for the Model of the Year award. The event served as the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation, supporting the growth and success of the British fashion industry through education, grant-giving, and business mentoring.

The BFC reintroduced gender-based design awards, splitting the best British designers into menswear and womenswear categories for the first time since the pandemic. British singer Sam Smith received the Cultural Innovator Award, joining past guests Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, and Bella Hadid, who won Model of the Year in 2022.

Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, emphasized the importance of reflective awards, stating, 'It is imperative the awards are reflective of our incredibly multifaceted industry and its brands and creatives.'
