Los Gatos, CA – Netflix has made a significant move into the realm of live sports, securing the U.S. rights to the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women's World Cups. This landmark deal marks the first time the streaming giant has acquired the full rights to a major sporting event.

"Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix isn't just about streaming matches," said Bela Bajaria, Netflix's Chief Content Officer. "It's about celebrating the players, the culture, and the passion driving the global rise of women's sport."

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Netflix has shown a very strong level of commitment to growing women's football. This agreement sends a strong message about the real value of the FIFA Women's World Cup and the global women's game."

A New Era for Women's Football

In addition to live match coverage, Netflix plans to produce exclusive documentary series that will delve into the lives of top players, their journeys to success, and the broader cultural impact of women's football. This comprehensive approach will provide fans with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the sport.

The 2027 World Cup

The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup is set to take place in Brazil. The tournament will build upon the success of the 2023 event, which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Spain emerged victorious in the 2023 tournament, defeating England in the final.

As Netflix continues to expand its content offerings, the acquisition of the FIFA Women's World Cup rights is a strategic move that aligns with the company's commitment to delivering high-quality, diverse programming. This partnership promises to elevate women's football to new heights and captivate audiences worldwide.
