Sofia Vergara, 52, Makes Surprising Revelation About Future Relationships: 'He Must Earn As Much As Me or More'.

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara isn't just back on the dating scene—she’s setting bold new standards for her next relationship.

During an appearance on the Today show with co-star Mel B to promote the 20th season of America’s Got Talent, the 52-year-old actress opened up about what she's looking for in a future partner—and her checklist includes more than just love and compatibility.

“I want to say the basic stuff, like health and somebody that loves me,” Vergara told co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Erin Andrews. “And somebody tall, handsome.”

But the Colombian-born beauty didn’t stop there. She candidly addressed a topic many celebrities shy away from: finances.

“I want somebody that has as much money as me or more, because if not, it's a nightmare,” she confessed. “They end up resenting you.”

Relationship Expert Weighs In: Vergara Has a Point

According to relationship expert Dr. Channa Bromley, Vergara’s concern isn’t just a personal opinion—it’s rooted in psychological and societal patterns.

“She’s absolutely right,” Dr. Bromley told DailyMail.com. “Deep down, many men are socialized to view themselves as the financial providers in relationships. When that dynamic is disrupted, it can mess with their sense of identity and self-worth.”

While it may seem old-fashioned, Dr. Bromley noted that the issue is often biological, psychological, and cultural. “It’s not logical, but it’s deeply ingrained. This often leads to resentment, which might not show up immediately but builds up over time.”

Warning Signs of Resentment in Relationships

Dr. Bromley advised women to look out for red flags early on in a relationship. “Jealousy masked as humor or passive-aggressive comments about money are early signs,” she said.

“If a man makes digs about your financial success or gets defensive about his own role, even early on, that’s where resentment begins. If he can’t celebrate you, he’s not the right partner for a relationship built on equality and growth.”

Financial Compatibility Is Key—But So Is Emotional Security

While Vergara emphasized financial parity, Dr. Bromley added a nuance. “Finding someone who earns the same or more can help avoid conflict,” she said. “But more importantly, find someone secure in their own identity—someone who doesn’t derive their value from their paycheck.”

Sofia Vergara’s Personal Journey Post-Divorce

Vergara’s candid dating revelations come nearly two years after her split from actor Joe Manganiello, 47. The former couple was married for seven years before divorcing in 2023.

At the time, the Griselda star said their differing views on parenthood were at the core of the separation. “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara shared in a recent interview.

While Manganiello’s estimated net worth is around $40 million, Vergara reportedly holds a staggering fortune of approximately $180 million—fueled by her years on Modern Family, brand endorsements, and business ventures.

After initially panicking post-divorce, wondering if she’d find love again at 52, Vergara said she now feels content.

“At first, I was like, ‘What’s gonna happen? Where am I going to find [someone]?’” she admitted. But with over a year and a half of single life behind her, the Emmy-nominated actress says she’s found peace with her new chapter.

“I’m not really in a hurry anymore,” Vergara said with a smile.
