Sana Yousaf, a 17-year-old Pakistani TikTok star known for her advocacy of women's rights and cultural heritage, was tragically shot and killed in her Islamabad home on June 2, 2025. The suspect, identified as her cousin Umar Hayat, was apprehended within 24 hours of the incident. 

The murder occurred on Sana's birthday in the G-13 sector of Islamabad. According to reports, Hayat entered her home under the pretense of a visit and, after a brief conversation, shot her twice at close range. She died instantly. 

Sana had amassed over 1.5 million followers across TikTok and Instagram, where she shared content promoting women's rights and traditional Chitrali culture. Her final social media post, shared hours after her death, showed her celebrating her birthday with friends.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the killing, with initial findings suggesting a personal dispute. Hayat reportedly confessed to the crime, citing repeated rejections by Sana.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and mourning across Pakistan. The hashtag #JusticeForSanaYousaf trended on social media, with users demanding justice and highlighting the dangers faced by women in the public eye. 

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the swift action of law enforcement, stating, "Well done Islamabad Police. Sana Yousaf murder case traced, accused arrested, and weapon recovered within 20 hours." 

Sana's death underscores the ongoing issue of violence against women in Pakistan, particularly those who challenge societal norms. Her advocacy for women's rights and cultural identity made her a prominent figure, and her untimely death has reignited calls for systemic change to protect women and content creators.

The suspect, Umar Hayat, has been remanded in custody, with the next court hearing scheduled for June 18.
