Chloe Madeley Opens Up About Split From James Haskell: "It Was Over Before We Realized"

Chloe Madeley, fitness guru and daughter of TV stars Richard and Judy, has opened up about her recent split from former rugby player James Haskell, shedding light on the reasons behind the end of their decade-long relationship. Speaking on Olivia Attwood’s So Wrong It’s Right podcast, Chloe shared intimate details about the breakdown of her marriage and the moment she knew it was over.

The couple, who were together for ten years and married for five, confirmed their separation in October 2023. However, Chloe revealed that their relationship had been unraveling for a while before the public announcement. The fitness expert, now 37, spoke candidly about how their differing lifestyles and personalities contributed to their eventual separation.

The Need for Structure vs. Thriving in Chaos

Chloe highlighted the fundamental differences between her and James' approaches to life as a major factor in their split. While she thrives on routine and structure, she explained that James, 39, operates best in a chaotic environment.

"I'm one of those people that needs structure and routine," she said on the podcast. "My ex, and I, I think, one of the reasons things became so hard for us was because he thrives in chaos."

James, a former rugby star who transitioned into various ventures, including DJing, had an unpredictable schedule, which often took him away from home. Chloe revealed that his chaotic lifestyle became increasingly difficult for her to manage.

"His schedule, I don't even remember when he was in England for a full week. He's all over the place, and I just can't do that. Can't live like that," she said.

This constant flux in their lives created tension, and Chloe admitted that she had been unhappy for some time before realizing the extent of the issue.

The Moment She Knew It Was Over

Despite the growing strain, neither Chloe nor James initially expected their relationship to end in divorce. Chloe reflected on how their unhappiness had built up gradually, and both were caught off guard when the realization hit that their marriage was no longer salvageable.

"I think I knew that I was really unhappy, and I think he knew that he was really unhappy too. But I don't think either of us ever would have predicted that we were going to break up. Ever," Chloe shared.

However, there was a distinct moment when everything shifted for her. Chloe vividly remembered the day, recalling every detail of the moment she decided to voice her feelings.

"I remember exactly where we were—I remember the day, the time, the temperature, the outfit, everything. I just remember saying, 'I don't think that we should do this anymore,' but really meaning it. And it kind of went from there."

She emphasized that the breakup wasn't sudden, but a gradual realization that neither was fighting to save the marriage. The couple had started discussing their unhappiness as early as August 2022, and over time, the reality of their situation became more apparent.

"As the days, weeks, months passed, you realize nobody's fighting for this," she said. "And so slowly, slowly, it dissipated."
