Flight attendant Tori Towey arrested in Dubai for 'suicide attempt'
Flight Attendant Tori Towey Begs for Help After Arrest for 'Attempted Suicide' in Dubai Following Alleged Domestic Violence.

In a distressing turn of events, Tori Towey, a 28-year-old Emirates flight attendant from County Roscommon, Ireland, has been detained in Dubai on charges of attempted suicide and alcohol consumption. This follows her claims of being violently attacked by her husband at their home in the United Arab Emirates. Towey's family is now urgently appealing to the Irish government for intervention.
The Incident
Towey alleges that she was subjected to a brutal attack by her husband, which culminated in her desperate attempt to take her own life. According to her aunt, Ann Flynn, "Following one particularly severe beating in which her husband repeatedly tried to break her arm, Tori escaped upstairs and attempted to take her own life."

Legal Complications
Despite being the victim of domestic violence, Towey now faces legal charges in Dubai, where the consumption of alcohol is still a contentious issue despite the country's public efforts to promote it as legal. Radha Stirling, CEO of the advocacy group Detained In Dubai, highlighted the paradox, stating, "In reality, people are still regularly charged with alcohol consumption and possession. Tori's experience is nothing short of tragic, and quite frankly, she is lucky to be alive."
Family's Plea
Tori's mother, Caroline Towey, has flown to Dubai to support her daughter. The family is appealing directly to Ireland's Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Simon Harris and other government officials for immediate assistance. "We are calling on our local representatives, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the embassy, and the Taoiseach to please do everything to get my daughter home safely," Caroline pleaded.
Tori herself expressed her desperation, saying, "I’m glad I’m with my mother now, but I don’t know what’s going to happen in court next week. I’m desperate to go home to Ireland and put all of this in the past. I’m asking the Taoiseach to please help us."

Political Intervention
The case has garnered significant attention in Ireland, with Sinn Féin president Mary Lou McDonald raising the issue in Dáil Éireann, Ireland's parliament. She emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "I am asking now, as a matter of absolute urgency, that we have a statement from this House, that you intervene Taoiseach, that the ambassador is called and that it is made absolutely plain to the authorities of Dubai that no woman should be treated in this way, and an Irish citizen, an Irish woman will not be treated in this way."
