Gigi Hadid Arrested for Marijuana Possession in Cayman Islands

Hadid, 28, was traveling with her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy when customs officers scanned their luggage upon arrival at the airport. The scan prompted a more thorough search of the pair's luggage, which resulted in officers discovering marijuana and “utensils used for the consumption of ganja.”

Hadid and McCarthy were arrested on suspicion of importation of ganja and importation of utensils used for the consumption of ganja. They were both transported to the Prisoner Detention Center for processing and eventually released on bail.

Hadid and McCarthy appeared in Summary Court on July 12 and pleaded guilty. They were both fined $1,000 and avoided a recorded conviction.

Hadid's rep told E! News that she was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license. Marijuana has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017.

Hadid didn't appear to let the brief time behind bars affect her, as she posted several photos to Instagram from her tropical vacation. In one series of photos, Hadid showed off an enormous hip tattoo of a dragon that she snapped while wearing a teeny bikini.

McCarthy also appeared unfazed by her illicit activities, as she, too, shared risqué photos of the group sunbathing on the island.

It appears the group traveled as a belated birthday trip for McCarthy.
