Gigi Hadid Seen in NYC Following Controversial Israel Post
Published 2 years ago on Dec 04, 2023

Supermodel Gigi Hadid made her first public appearance in New York City, days after she faced criticism and subsequently deleted a contentious Instagram post related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Newly surfaced photos captured Hadid's arrival at JFK airport on Friday, where she maintained a stern expression while wheeling her luggage. The model opted for a chic travel ensemble, featuring an oversized leather jacket paired with a gray undershirt. She completed the look with black straight-legged pants, a stylish belt, and sunglasses.

Hadid's return to the Big Apple followed her decision to remove a polarizing Instagram post that inaccurately claimed Israel was the "only country in the world that keeps children as prisoners of war." The now-deleted post also accused Israel of various atrocities against Palestinians.

The supermodel, known for her advocacy for Palestinians, issued a lengthy apology on Instagram, acknowledging her failure to fact-check the content before sharing it.

"As someone of Palestinian descent, the endless heartbreaking news and imagery coming out of Gaza has been painful and often overwhelming," Hadid expressed in her apology. "It is important to me to share the real stories about the hardships that Palestinians have endured and continue to endure, but this weekend I shared something that I did not fact check or deeply think about prior to posting."

The controversial post featured images of Ahmed Manasra, a Palestinian convicted of attempted murder in connection to stabbings at a Jewish settlement in 2015. The post claimed Almanasra was "abducted by the #Israeli occupation at the age of 12" and subjected to solitary confinement despite his health condition.

Facing backlash, Hadid clarified that her intention was to highlight perceived injustices by the Israeli government and emphasize the unequal treatment of Palestinian children compared to their Israeli counterparts. She expressed regret for choosing an incorrect example and clarified that she does not support spreading misinformation.

In addressing her large social media following, Hadid recognized the responsibility that comes with her platform. "I'm human and I make mistakes. But I hold myself accountable for those mistakes. I do not stand behind the spreading of misinformation, and have always condemned using the Free Palestine movement as justification for anti-Semitism," she asserted.

Gigi Hadid is not currently married. She has been in a relationship with British singer Zayn Malik on and off since 2015. The couple has one daughter together, Khai, who was born in September 2020.
