Kensington Palace's Vigilant Efforts to Quash Prince William Cheating Rumors Revealed in New Book

Kensington Palace's Vigilant Efforts to Quash Prince William Cheating Rumors Revealed in New Book
Published 1 years ago on Dec 01, 2023

In a detailed account presented in the book "Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival" by royal expert Omid Scobie, revelations emerge about Kensington Palace's concerted efforts to suppress rumors of Prince William's alleged infidelity with longtime friend Rose Hanbury.

Scobie discloses that Kensington Palace, specifically press secretary Christian Jones, went to great lengths to halt the rumor mill from churning out stories about Prince William's purported involvement with Rose Hanbury. The Sun, being the first outlet to inquire about the affair allegations, was allegedly approached by Jones, who was desperate to put an end to the speculations.

A former courtier, cited by Scobie, revealed, "Christian was so desperate to stop [the rumor] and made it his mission to do so." The author goes on to claim that Jones, feeling the stress of the situation, promised the Sun's journalist other royal-related scoops in exchange for backing off from the rumors.

By June 2019, the Sun reportedly withdrew its reporters from the investigation, and Scobie asserts that a high-level courtier informed him that "Christian helped make it end." According to the book, the tabloid then shifted its focus to publishing "a series of revealing stories" about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Scobie, in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," emphasized his careful approach to addressing the claims, considering legal constraints and lack of concrete proof. He stated, "For legal reasons, there are so many things that one can’t go into, but I thought it was really important, even if a rumor is a rumor."

While Scobie acknowledged that the hearsay has persisted due to Prince William and Kate Middleton's silence on the matter, he maintained that there is no evidence supporting the rumors. He added, "Those rumors will never go away even though there’s no truth to suggest that they are true."

Prince William's legal team had vehemently denied the cheating allegations in April 2019, with attorneys from Harbottle & Lewis stating that the claims were "false and highly damaging." They asserted that the publication of false speculation regarding the royal couple's private life constituted a breach of privacy.

Despite ongoing speculation, neither Scobie nor any news outlets have confirmed the veracity of the rumors. Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, attended King Charles III’s coronation earlier this year, dispelling some rumors of a fallout with the royal family. However, her absence from pictures with Prince William and Kate Middleton raised questions.

Notably, Hanbury's familial ties to the royals, with her paternal grandmother being a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth II's 1947 wedding, add a layer of historical connection to the unfolding narrative. The book provides an intricate look into the behind-the-scenes efforts by Kensington Palace to navigate and manage the sensitive situation surrounding the alleged cheating rumors.
