AC-12 Assembles! 'Line of Duty' Season 7 Confirmed, Filming Eyed for 2025.

Hold onto your waistcoats, folks! "Line of Duty," the gripping BBC police drama that had the nation hooked, is officially returning for a seventh season. The news, long-awaited by fans, was confirmed by Christina Chong, who played DI Nicky Rogerson in series two and six. Speaking at the Hollywood Saturn Awards, Chong revealed she'd been approached about her availability for filming next year, stating, "So I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven."

This exciting development brings renewed hope to legions of "Line of Duty" devotees who have been clamoring for more since the explosive, and somewhat divisive, conclusion of series six in 2021. The revelation that the seemingly inept DCI Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) was the elusive "H," the corrupt kingpin pulling the strings of organized crime, left viewers stunned and craving further resolution.

Chong's character, DI Rogerson, first appeared in series two back in 2014. A member of the Major Violent Crime unit, she became entangled in AC-12's investigations, even developing a romantic connection with the dashing DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and acting as an informant for the team. Her potential return suggests that unfinished business remains, and that Rogerson may play a crucial role in the upcoming season.

Chong's confirmation follows comments from series star Martin Compston, who has been teasing the possibility of a revival for some time. In an interview with The Times, Compston acknowledged the challenges of coordinating the schedules of the busy cast, including Vicky McClure (DC Kate Fleming) and Adrian Dunbar (Superintendent Ted Hastings). "I just don’t know. I’m busy next year. Vicky’s ridiculously busy, so’s Adrian. If there’s a story Jed wants to tell, he’ll come to us," Compston explained. He added, playfully, "As soon as there’s some news we’ll let you know, but right now there’s nothing there. I’d like to pull my waistcoat out again."

Compston, who portrayed DI Steve Arnott for six series, also addressed the constant fan inquiries about the show's future during an appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X. He expressed his appreciation for the continued interest, stating, "I love that people ask and the love that people have. When people stop asking about it it’ll be a sad day. I do love that but, you don’t want to give fans false hope because people get excited." While he cautioned against raising expectations prematurely, he remained optimistic, saying, "We’re not planning anything immediately. We’d love to do another one at some point but we’re all working next year on other stuff."
