A shocking revelation emerged in a high-profile espionage trial in London, as it was revealed that two alleged Russian spies were caught in flagrante delicto when authorities swooped in to arrest them.

Bulgarian nationals Vanya Gaberova, 29, and Biser Dzhambazov, 43, were found naked in bed together during a police raid in February 2023. The pair, along with three other individuals, are accused of operating a sophisticated spy ring on behalf of Russian intelligence services.

The court heard that Dzhambazov, a medical courier, was also living with co-defendant Katrin Ivanova, 32, in Harrow, northwest London. While they appeared to be a couple, he was discovered in a compromising position with Gaberova at the time of the arrest.

Ivanova, a lab assistant, and Gaberova, who ran a beauty parlor in Acton, West London, deny any involvement in espionage. They are joined by Gaberova's ex-boyfriend, decorator Tihomir Ivanchev, 38, who also maintains his innocence.

However, the prosecution alleges that the group, led by Orlin Roussev, 46, was involved in a complex network of surveillance, identity theft, and information gathering. Roussev, who has admitted his role in the espionage operation, is described as the mastermind behind the scheme.

The court heard that the spies used a variety of methods to gather intelligence, including surveillance, hacking, and social engineering. They also employed elaborate disguises, such as posing as journalists, to gain access to sensitive locations and events.

One of the most audacious plans involved targeting a US military base in Germany, which the group believed was being used to train Ukrainian soldiers. They intended to use sophisticated electronic surveillance equipment to intercept communications and gather information on the base's activities.

The alleged spies were arrested before they could carry out this operation, but the evidence presented in court paints a picture of a highly organized and determined group of individuals who were willing to go to great lengths to serve their Russian handlers.

The trial is ongoing, and the defendants face serious charges that could result in lengthy prison sentences. The case has raised concerns about the extent of Russian intelligence operations in the UK and the potential threat they pose to national security.

As the trial unfolds, more details are likely to emerge about the inner workings of this spy ring and the individuals who were involved.
