Amanda Holden Defends BGT Outfits Amid Ofcom Complaints
Amanda Holden Defiantly Responds to Ofcom Complaints Over Daring Britain's Got Talent Outfits.

Amanda Holden has made headlines once again—not just for her glamorous fashion choices on Britain's Got Talent, but for the fierce defense she’s issued in response to mounting Ofcom complaints regarding her on-screen wardrobe. As one of ITV's most recognisable faces, the 54-year-old TV presenter and actress has been a staple on the judging panel since the show's inception in 2007. And year after year, her style has continued to spark conversation, controversy, and admiration.

With over 1,000 Ofcom complaints filed over the years targeting her wardrobe, Amanda has finally broken her silence in a bold and unapologetic response. In a recent interview with Closer magazine, she brushed off the criticism, insisting that fashion is meant to be fun and daring—not dull or conservative.
“I Really Love What I Wear”
Speaking candidly about the scrutiny she’s faced, Amanda told Closer: “What you see on TV, I really love. I'm always asked about the Ofcom complaints, but every outfit on the show is checked before I leave my dressing room, so I'm never worried.”

Amanda emphasized that each ensemble is carefully curated with the help of her stylist, and she stands by every look she has worn since joining Britain’s Got Talent. Her message to critics? Fashion should be about self-expression, confidence, and fun.
"I think people should have fun with fashion!" she added, clearly exasperated by the repeated backlash.
A History of Controversial Couture
Amanda Holden is no stranger to media storms surrounding her wardrobe. One of the most talked-about incidents came during the 2017 BGT semi-final, when she wore a Julien Macdonald gown that featured a dramatic plunge to the navel and a backless design. The daring dress drew a staggering 663 complaints to Ofcom, with viewers branding it “inappropriate” for a family show.

Despite the uproar, Ofcom opted not to investigate, noting that while the dress “had the potential to offend some viewers,” it did not exceed what would be considered outside the realm of most viewers' expectations.

This was far from an isolated incident. In 2019, a sheer spiderweb-detailed dress worn by Holden also prompted complaints—albeit fewer in number. Just nine viewers formally objected, though the moment still gained significant traction online. Rather than get defensive, Amanda poked fun at the situation by posting a humorous photo on Instagram, joking that a water bottle conveniently placed on the judging panel acted as a “nipple cover.”
The following evening, Holden again drew attention—and complaints—when she appeared in a stunning creation by Lebanese designer Saiid Kobeisy. That gown resulted in 34 complaints filed with Ofcom.
"Baffled" by the Backlash
In October 2020, Amanda’s appearance in a plum-colored Suzanne Neville gown—complete with a lace corset top and thigh-high slit—sparked 896 complaints to Ofcom, with 136 of them specifically about her attire. Responding via Instagram, Holden appeared genuinely confused by the outrage.

"Just to say this dress got a tiny 136 complaints out of the 896 we apparently got that night," she wrote. "Surely there are more terrible and important things to write about... don’t you agree? I’m baffled why it’s still going on."
Later that year, she faced further criticism over a navy off-the-shoulder dress by Celia Kritharioti, which resulted in 235 additional complaints. Again, Amanda hit back, defending her right to wear what makes her feel confident and glamorous on television.
Double Standards?
Amanda Holden has also pointed out the double standards that exist in public discourse around fashion—particularly for women on television. She once commented that her fellow BGT judge Alesha Dixon, 46, doesn’t seem to attract the same level of criticism, despite also wearing eye-catching and stylish outfits.
In 2022, Amanda spoke passionately about the need to challenge the narrative that women must dress modestly to be respected. “Fashion is about taking risks. I encourage everyone to have a little fun and be a little daring. I’d be bored playing it safe.”
This sentiment continues to be a key part of her public persona. Amanda doesn’t just wear dresses—she makes statements with them. Her fearless approach to fashion is not only admired by fans but also sets a precedent for celebrating individuality in a highly scrutinized industry.
Staying True to Her Style in 2025
Now well into the 2025 series of Britain’s Got Talent, Amanda Holden shows no signs of toning down her fashion choices. Each week, she continues to dazzle audiences with high-fashion ensembles that make headlines, turn heads, and, yes, sometimes provoke controversy.

But rather than let the backlash alter her style or shake her confidence, Amanda remains steadfast. Her message is clear: she will not be shamed into changing who she is or what she chooses to wear.
As the conversation around women in media continues to evolve, Amanda Holden’s unapologetic stance serves as a powerful reminder that personal style is just that—personal. And while some viewers may object, Amanda’s fans, stylists, and fellow celebrities widely regard her as a fashion icon who isn’t afraid to challenge norms.
A Fashion Icon Who Won’t Be Silenced
Amanda Holden’s ongoing journey on Britain’s Got Talent is marked not just by her undeniable talent and charisma, but by her unwavering commitment to embracing fashion on her own terms. With her head held high and heels firmly planted, she continues to redefine what it means to be stylish, confident, and unapologetically herself.
And if the Ofcom complaints keep coming? Amanda is ready—with a bold dress, a cheeky grin, and a sharp comeback.
