Shakira Faces Backlash After Six Tour Shows Cancelled
Shakira Faces Backlash After Cancelling Sixth Show on World Tour.

International pop sensation Shakira is facing growing backlash after cancelling a sixth performance on her sold-out "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" world tour, leaving thousands of fans disappointed and demanding answers. The Colombian singer, 48, has attributed the cancellations to a combination of medical issues, safety concerns, and technical setbacks.
The latest cancellation, announced just hours before her scheduled WorldPride performance in Washington, D.C., marks the third show axed in three days. The announcement came from Nationals Park at approximately 5 p.m. EST on Friday, stating that “due to complications with the previous show in Boston, Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time.”
In a statement to TMZ, Shakira expressed her own heartbreak over the turn of events. “I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans in both Washington and Boston, and my team and I have made every effort to make it happen, but it doesn’t depend on any one of us right now, and I am devastated that these shows were just not possible this time.”
She added, "I promise that I will do everything in my power to be with you as soon as I can."

Fan Outrage Mounts
Despite her public apology, fans took to social media to vent their frustrations. Many had traveled long distances, taken time off work, and spent significant amounts of money to attend what was supposed to be a memorable night with their idol.
One disappointed fan wrote, "I traveled with my family from Pittsburgh, took time off work, and paid for an Airbnb — all for this one special occasion. This was supposed to be my daughter’s birthday gift."

Another fumed, "I've waited 30 years to see you. You wait less than 24 hours to cancel a sold-out crowd in Washington DC. This is just gut-wrenching."
A third added, "Terrible! Never again! Second cancellation... first because the venues weren’t big enough. Now because they can’t bring equipment?! I guess those hips do lie."
Some fans even suggested she take a more stripped-down approach: "Go out with the musicians and just sing! You are rich, and people spend their last money and weekends. Show some empathy."

Ongoing Tour Troubles
Shakira kicked off the "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" tour in Brazil in February 2025. Within the first month, four Latin American shows were postponed. While one postponement was reportedly due to medical reasons, three others were linked to production challenges.
Two shows in Chile were canceled on short notice, leading the singer to deliver a heartfelt acoustic rendition of her hit "Antología" from her hotel balcony, trying to console the fans who had gathered outside.
In a previous statement, Shakira cited local production mishandling as a key factor. "When an artist travels to a country, their production and team become directly dependent on the local producers. My staff and I trusted at all times that the production company hired by the local promoter would follow to the letter the specifications that were diligently provided by us so that a show of the magnitude of this one could take place."
Additionally, some North American shows originally scheduled in arenas had to be moved to stadiums to accommodate high demand, which also contributed to scheduling challenges and logistical delays.

Record-Breaking Tour Despite Setbacks
Despite the issues, Shakira's "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" world tour has shattered records. According to Billboard, the tour has become the highest-grossing Latin American concert tour by a female artist, overtaking Karol G's "Mañana Será Bonito" tour.
So far, the tour has grossed over $130 million from just 21 shows, primarily in Mexico and South America. The staggering figures placed her tour at number two globally in Billboard's 2025 midyear Boxscore Report. The only artist ahead of her is Coldplay, who generated $142 million from 20 performances.
With six shows now cancelled and many fans expressing diminished trust, the pressure is on Shakira and her team to stabilize the tour moving forward. While she has vowed to make up for the missed performances, it remains to be seen how the logistics will play out, and whether future dates might face similar risks.
Fans are hoping the remainder of the tour will proceed without further disruptions. Shakira’s team has yet to announce rescheduled dates for the missed shows, and no further details have been provided regarding refunds or make-up performances.

As her global fanbase awaits further news, this chapter in Shakira's otherwise celebrated return to the stage serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of live performances — and the expectations artists must meet when they promise the world.
