The mother of four didn't attend a traditional law school, but instead took the alternative route available in California: the Law Office Study Program (LOSP), which allows students to "read the law" under the mentorship of practicing attorneys rather than attending an accredited law school. This path is demanding, requiring a minimum of 18 hours of weekly study for four years, along with passage of two difficult exams — the "baby bar" and the California Bar Exam.
Kardashian started the program in 2019, inspired by her late father Robert Kardashian Sr., a prominent attorney best known for his role on O.J. Simpson’s legal defense team during the infamous 1995 murder trial. She has often spoken publicly about her father’s influence and her passion for criminal justice reform, which grew after she successfully advocated for clemency in several high-profile cases.
Her graduation comes after more than 5,000 hours of study, during which she also raised four children, managed several businesses including the SKIMS fashion brand, filmed reality television shows, and engaged in criminal justice reform efforts.
A Backyard Graduation Fit for a Kardashian
To mark the completion of her law studies, Kim hosted a backyard graduation ceremony — and while she was the only graduate, the celebration was full of emotional tributes, family pride, and notable guests.
Kim wore a fitted grey top paired with a black mini skirt and a beige graduation cap. Her three youngest children — Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 5 — were in attendance, dressed up to support their mother. She later shared sweet photos of the kids from the event, including one of Psalm eating ice cream in a tiny suit, with the caption, “My babies were there to see me graduate.”

Kim’s mentors, including criminal justice advocate Jessica Jackson and CNN political commentator Van Jones, delivered heartfelt speeches during the ceremony. Despite the celebration, not everyone was impressed. Social media was quickly flooded with sarcastic remarks from critics pointing out how long it took Kim to complete a program many typically finish in four years.
“Six years to finish a law program? That’s double the time,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Girl, it takes THREE years. You didn’t graduate — you just caught up.”
Some joked that she must have only taken one class per semester, while others questioned the legitimacy of her legal education altogether. “Took her long enough,” another wrote. “Is it supposed to take this long?”
Still, Kim had her fair share of supporters as well.
“Give her some credit,” one fan commented. “She was building SKIMS, raising four kids, running an empire, AND studying law. This is her ‘Legally Brunette’ era, and I support it.”
Indeed, Kim’s journey wasn’t without major obstacles. She failed the baby bar exam three times before passing in 2021. The exam — officially known as the First-Year Law Students’ Examination — is required in California for LOSP students to continue in the program. According to Kim, only about 20% of people pass it on their first try.
She also passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) earlier this year, another essential step toward licensure. Her final hurdle will be passing the California Bar Exam, which she plans to take in 2026.
In multiple interviews, Kim has credited her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., as her primary inspiration. He passed away in 2003 from esophageal cancer at the age of 59. During the graduation ceremony, Kim shared a photo of her father, writing, “I know he would be so proud of me.”
Her father’s legacy looms large over her journey. He was one of the most recognizable figures in the legal profession in the 1990s, standing by O.J. Simpson as both a friend and a member of his "Dream Team" of defense attorneys.
“I didn’t take the conventional route, but it doesn’t make the accomplishment any less meaningful,” Kim said in a recent Instagram post. “My dad would have loved this moment.”
While she hasn’t passed the Bar Exam yet, Kim is already deeply involved in legal advocacy. Her past work includes lobbying for prison reform, helping to commute life sentences for nonviolent drug offenders, and partnering with organizations that fight for clemency and second chances.
In 2022, she publicly shared her long-term ambition: to open a law firm dedicated to criminal justice reform. With her graduation now complete, that dream is one step closer to becoming reality.
As Kim Kardashian continues on her journey to become a practicing lawyer, she remains a polarizing figure — but there’s no denying the impact of her persistence, or the unique path she’s carved in both the entertainment and legal worlds.
“I want to use this knowledge to help people who deserve a second chance,” she said. “This is just the beginning.”
